Calling all Central New York women - try a 3-day course in horseback riding and barrel racing
When I am not hosting my own sporting events, I love to media sponsor our women’s events including this one by Julie B. Hughes, Founder of the Run to Write Club Summer Sessions.
The first Summer Session, open to all women in the Greater Central New York Region, will be on Wednesday, July 17th starting at the Freedom of Espresso in Fayetteville. From there we run or walk for up to 30 minutes and then return to the cafe for writing and beverages. There is no cost to participate. Everyone pays for their beverage.
Did you know, that many accomplished writers understand a fundamental truth that aspiring writers often overlook: the actual act of writing is not the most challenging part. The real hurdle is finding the motivation and discipline to sit down and begin writing. Steven Pressfield calls this "Resistance" - the internal forces hindering our creativity. This insight resonated deeply with Julie B. Hughes, which is why she leads the Run to Write Club.
By joining together, we can find strength and accountability to confront the internal barriers that can obstruct our writing practice. You will meet some great women in the process.

Uticuse Hellbenders Rugby is inspiring business women to try their game! Women TIES and the Women’s Athletic Network is taking them up on their invitation to try the sport - a growing sport for women globally.
Rugby was originally a men’s sport and women’s rugby has become popular more recently. These days, women’s rugby is gaining a higher profile thanks to International tournaments’ exposure and financial investment.
The growth in popularity among women attracted women in both developed and emerging nations, being the fastest-growing sport in the world with over 500,000 new players joining every year globally. The game remains an amateur, minority sport but a fast-growing one played in over 80 countries worldwide. It is estimated that by 2026, 40% of the total number of players will be female! Do you want to be one of them?
Join Tracy Chamberlain Higginbotham at Uticuse Hellbenders Rugby (a women’s team) located in Syracuse for an evening practice to get a feel for the game. If you love it, you can always return and play with them on a weekly basis.
The club bridged the cities of Utica and Syracuse since 2008 and grew the team from a rag-tag group of diverse individuals, former rugby players, and newly interested ones alike to a State-Ranked Competitive Rugby Club.
Both their captains and coach will be on hand to help us with drills and cater the first practice to our experience level! So you have nothing to lose but a fun night of trying a new sport, which you might just want to try again.
Grab a girlfriend and join Tracy and her cousin Paige Amidon, a former SU Rugby player for a night of rucking, mauling, and scrumming!
We’ll network after the practice with a drink or two at Chelsea’s Restaurant. Part of the cost includes Tracy bringing water bottles and snacks for our attendees. Let’s go Ruck!
Please register on the Women TIES website so we can send you information at: www.womenties.com or www.womensathleticnetwork.com by 5/22/23.

Join Women’s Sports Foundation for the next Town Hall in our Title IX 50th Anniversary series, Women Coaches & Leaders: Title IX's Impact & Future Promise, on November 29. Together with Women Leaders in College Sports, the Women's Sports Foundation has gathered advocates and leaders to discuss the effect Title IX has had on women coaches and leaders, and strategies and actionable steps on how to get and keep more women in the leadership and coaching pipeline.
Did you know that in the 50 years since Title IX's passage, the percentage of women in collegiate coaching roles has declined? In the 1970-71 academic year, 90% of all head coaches for women's college teams were women. In 2021, women held only 41% of head coach positions in women's NCAA sports. Furthermore, BIPOC women continue to be underrepresented in decision making positions with 7% of head coaches of women's teams in the NCAA and only 4% of athletic directors in the NCAA.
Don't miss out on this important conversation about the coaching and leadership gaps and opportunities. Sign up now for this important discussion!

Calling all women who want to leave their curling irons behind and partake in the athletic ice event of curling, a favorite event at the last Winter Olympics.
In her pursuit to try every sport once in her lifetime, Tracy Chamberlain Higginbotham, Founder of the Women's Athletic Network and Women TIES, LCC along with at least 7 other regional women will learn how to Curl and then compete in a game against each other (we need 8 participants total). She has found women who participate in these athletic or adventure sports, bond and network in stronger ways which helps grow business and personal "ties."
The Women's Athletic Network and Women TIES "Curling Our Way Towards New Dynamic Bonds" will take place on Saturday, October 22nd from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Utica Curling Club, 8300 Clark Mills Rd, Whitesboro, NY 13492. At this cool experience women entrepreneurs will work on celebrating team dynamics, how to manage people, and test their skills on the ice, all while having fun. It is a two-hour ice adventure only made for the warm, yet icy-hearted and shrewd, women entrepreneurs.
The event includes the 2-hour instruction, beverages and snacks, an unforgettable experience networking with new regional women in business, and possibly a lunch afterwards at a restaurant close by (we will all determine this after the event is over if we want to network even more). All participants must provide proof of vaccination against Covid-19 to the Utica Curling Club.
The Monday following the event, as you go to curl your hair for your next business outing, you might think of curling differently, have new team skills, and the business cards of new women you met in your pink pocketbook.
Make your official reservation and pay the fee at http://www.womenties.com/events.cfm
NOTE: We are looking for a "cool" sponsor for this program so let us know if you are "game" to have us promote your name before, during and after the event to our vast marketing platform. Call or email the office for more details.
